TDI's mission is to promote diversity and inclusion in the workforce by connecting job seekers with disabilities that we have prepared for employment to businesses in the community that have a need for their unique skills, talents and abilities.
Work Opportunity Tax Credit - WOTC is available to employers who hire individuals from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Employers can receive a tax credit of up to $2,400 per individual hired. Many people with disabilities meet the criteria for WOTC, including all recipients of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and all clients of state Vocational Rehabilitation agencies.
ADA SMALL BUSINESS CREDIT
Businesses with 30 or fewer employees or $1,000,000 or less per year in total revenue can receive a tax credit for the cost of accommodations provided to an employee (or customer) with a disability. This credit covers 50% of eligible expenditures up to $10,000 (maximum credit per year of $5000). For additional information, contact the Internal Revenue Service.
FEDERAL BONDING PROGRAM
In 1966 the U.S. Department of Labor established The Federal Bonding Program to provide Fidelity Bonds that guarantee honesty for “at-risk,” hard-to-place job seekers. The bonds cover the first six months of employment. There is no cost to the job applicant or the employer. In most states the bonds are made available through the state agency responsible for workforce matters.
THE JOB ACCOMMODATION NETWORK
The Job Accommodation Network (JAN), a service of the United States Department Of Labor, Office of Disability and Employment Policy, has a free on-line and telephone resource for anyone who has questions about job accommodations, or about the employment sections of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
